If there’s one bride who sure knows how to make an entry, it is Dipika Israni. Dressed in a violet bejeweled gown, she waltzed into her reception ceremony for her first dance with her newly wedded husband Sahil Panjabi. Watching the couple burn the dance-floor to James Blunt’s ‘Bonfire Heart’ was like witnessing a fairytale unfold at the Sheraton Hua Hin in Thailand.Class and elegance personified, Dipika definitely has a spunky side to her as well. It’s not hard to imagine how much she loves to put on her dancing shoes. And the fact that dance was such an integral part of not just the Sangeet but the entire wedding, was a thrill for us at Twirling Moments. It was at Dipika’s twin sister Divya’s wedding that we first met the bride. Having choreographed for Divya’s Sangeet, we already shared a great rapport with Dipika. After all, not only do we at Twirling Moments share her passion for dance, but also for fitness and healthy food! While her first dance with Sahil was saved for their reception, on the day of the Sangeet, she matched steps with her gang of girls. It was at the pool party though where the wedding’s most memorable dance number was performed—it was a surprise flashmob rehearsed by all the family members from both sides. Needless to say the bride and groom were bowled over by the grand gesture.
Sahil, truly Dipika’s knight in shining armour, hails from the island of Mauritius. Not exactly saat samundar paar, but their love story is definitely one for the books. Sparks would begin to fly when the usually calm and composed Sahil looked into Dipika’s eyes while they rehearsed for their first dance together. But the romantic groom had something greater than their duet up his sleeve for his bride-to-be. With a little help from Twirling Moments, he planned a surprise act with his band of boys on ‘Suit’, Despacito’ and ‘Tu meri’. And paying ode to the groom’s side, we also incorporated a Mauritian song called ‘La Tournier’ in the medley. What was truly commendable was how the groom’s family managed
a spectacular performance even though practice sessions were managed mainly by exchanging videos.
The highlight of the performance was definitely Prince Charming’s dramatic finale, where he took to the stage donning laser gloves.
‘Ise kehte hain judwaa!’ This line from the movie Judwaa suits Dipika and her identical twin Divya to such an extent that we even incorporated it in one of the performances to hilarious effect. Having worked with them before, we had no doubt that Divya and her husband Milin Parekh would bring an
incomparable energy to the wedding. Although the Judwaa bit won big laughs, it was the girls’performance that really stole the show that night. They lit up the stage with their moves on a mashup of ‘Main cheez badi’, ‘Shape of you’ and ‘Aaja aaja mere swaggerwale raja’.
