With Udaipur’s magnificent Zenana Mahal in the background, Akshita dressed in a gorgeous lavender Shyamal Bhumika lehenga made the picture perfect bride on the day of her Sangeet on February 26, 2016. The epitome of grace, Akshita was keen that the performances at their musical soiree matched the rustic royalty of the ethereal erstwhile palace, once home to the ladies of The City Palace, Udaipur.
Fantastic on her feet and passionate about dancing, the bride knew she wanted this night of celebration to be the highlight of her wedding extravaganza, and it was our honour to make sure it was just the way she had always dreamed it would be.
Twirling Moments’ first tryst with Akshita was at her brother Anish’s wedding in 2014. Our existing relationship with her made our collaboration with her as a beautiful bride not just that much easier, but also a whole lot more fun. She knew she wanted to go offbeat, and together we decided to go with non-Bollywood numbers to showcase the elegance and lit the Indian dance moves to be perfectly in-sync with the palatial venue in Rajasthan.
The highlight of the night was quite easily the bride’s duet with her sister-in-law Vinisha. Bringing Shankar Mahadevan’s ‘Breathless’ to life, they began their performance with the mirror-image act. Using a 7×7 mirror frame as a prop, the talented duo mirrored each others steps. It was without a doubt a tricky piece to perform, but their practice and hard work really paid off.
If Akshita is a dreamer, her groom Gautam is the perfect anchor. Conscious of how important the Sangeet was for his bride, the serious, smart and sincere businessman left no stone unturned when it came to the big day. In a sense, it was dance that had brought the two of them together. The first time they met was at a friend’s dance rehearsal, where Akshita was teaching the steps to everyone. Gautam thought she was the choreographer and found her really cute! And the rest, as they say, is history.
On the day of their Sangeet, Gautam was nervous about matching steps with his bride. To calm his nerves, we rehearsed till the very last moment. His performance on ‘Gulaabo’ with all the girls ended with a dramatic entry of the two most important women in his life—his mother and his bride. But his performance with Akshita on the classic song Chaudhry, a perfect mix of mischief and romance, was appreciated the most.
We at Twirling Moments got a chance to relive the magical, nostalgic moments of working with Akshita’s brother Anish and his wife Vinisha at Akshita and Gautam’s wedding. The couple’s amazing energy, Vinisha’s fantastic dance moves and Anish’s spunkiness, made it a sheer pleasure to choreograph them once again. They wanted to make the event as special as they could and put in a lot of efforts. For us, it was a challenge to do something bigger and better this time around. For this loving couple’s performance, we went with a medley of ‘Tere Bina’ from Guru and ‘Pehli baar’ from Dil Dhadakne Do which offered a fun element as well as a classical Indian rhythm.
